About the Regional Programme Asia

"International cooperation is far too important to be left to the governments alone." (Willy Brandt)

The Regional Programme in Asia complements FES programmes and projects on the global and national level. Its approach and focus is going beyond the national level by responding to the trends of globalisation, labour mobility, regional integration and connectivity in all areas of life. The projects conducted under its framework target to build transnational networks and coalitions between individuals and organisations and promote change for more social justice, sustainable peace, economic development in the region.

Global, Regional and National Programmes

FES Global Programmes

FES Global Programmes promote dialogue on questions of future global policy by providing platforms for discussion and consultation. Key areas include energy and climate-change policy, the stability of international financial markets, demography and migration, the social dimension of globalisation, violent conflicts, human rights, and issues of statehood and governance. FES’ global programmes are mainly coordinated by our head office in Germany and the FES offices in New York and Geneva. Some thematic projects are: Dialogue on Globalization, Global Trade Union Programme; Climate and Energy Politics.

FES Regional Programmes

FES Regional Programmes focus on regions or continents and are closely linked to global and/or national programmes. Their approach and focus go beyond the national level by responding to the trends of globalisation, labour mobility, regional integration and connectivity in all areas of life. The Regional Programme in Asia is one of these initiatives, comprising four major projects: Social Democracy, Social Justice, Economy of Tomorrow and Peace and Security. Despite their diversity, they all carry the same vision and establish close synergies with and between the national and global level activities.

FES National Programmes

FES National Programmes focus on the country level, but also reflect global and regional issues which are of national concern. The main focus of the national programmes is to support political, social and economic processes at the national level. Just as in the global and regional programmes, we cooperate with governmental institutions, trade unions, political parties, social movements, NGOs, media and scientific institutions, etc. We work in over 100 countries around the world. In Asia, there are currently 14 national offices, but activities are conducted in 18 countries, including Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia.
